CTV newscasts on federal stat holidays on all stations except Toronto also ceased. These changes also impact CTV Lethbridge, which rebroadcasts CTV Calgary’s programming. Previously, CTV cut local sports coverage from its local newscasts and replaced it with the network's national sports feed on March 28, 2017. Bell Media has been operating the station since 1998.

Rogers TV closed community station Rogers Peel TV on May 2, 2017. New CRTC rules allow for funds previously allocated to community stations to be redirected to local news operations, but a Rogers spokesman said details were unavailable on how the savings in this case would be reallocated.

With the announcement on August 20 that Global News anchor Jamie Orchard was laid off, also came the news that the show she hosted, Focus Montreal, would be cancelled. Previously, on August 17, 2015, Global Montreal launched its News at Noon half-hour local newscast produced out of Montreal and hosted by Jamie Orchard.
