CHIR 107.9 FM, a community radio station serving the Southern Gulf Islands in British Columbia, was officially launched by the Gulf Islands Community Radio Society on November 25, 2025. The radio station began operating as an online streaming station ten years earlier and soft launched its FM station in September 2025.

Local news continues on its sister stations, which are affiliates of the TVA and V networks, but the station’s seven transmitters will be shut down, meaning no over-the-air reception for Radio-Canada in the region. The shutdown will leave CKRT-DT in Rivière-du-Loup, owned by Télé Inter-Rives, as the only privately owned Radio-Canada TV affiliate in the country.

Quebecor announced on August 30, 2023, that it would be closing MAtv Montreal the following summer, resulting in the loss of five jobs. Three positions at other MAtv regional stations were also eliminated. The community television station was available exclusively to Videotron subscribers and launched in the 1970s. It was renamed MAtv in 2012 and English-language programming was introduced in September 2015.
