The Whitehorse Star published its final issue on May 17, 2024. The owners of the independent paper cited challenges in the newspaper industry as the reason for the closure, including declining circulation and advertisers shifting from newspapers to social media. Previously, on March 4, 2019, the daily newspaper reduced service and started publishing their print edition only three days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), citing a weakened local economy.
